In 2008, Maryville Alcoa Flying Dolphins swimmer Jake Thomas went running and tragically passed away due to heat stroke.
To honor Jake, Swim and Tri began the Jake Thomas Memorial Scholarship. Each year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a swimmer who best demonstrates motivating his or her teammates to enjoy their swim team experience - just like Jake!
SMI was an event that Jake looked forward to each year. He will be deeply missed by his Dolphin friends and family.
