Michele Brown Named MAFD 2010 Head Coach
The Board of Directors is proud to announce the addition of Michele Brown as the Head Coach for the 2010 MAFD season. Michele has more than eight years swim experience, most recently as Assistant Coach with Maryville High School. She has worked as a referee and meet director and has served on the Officials Committee for Southeastern Swimming. Welcome Michele!
Assistant Coaches Named
For the past few weeks, the Board and Head Coach have been working furiously to put together the rest of the staff for this summer. We are proud to announce that Wanda DeWaard will return to the Dolphins as Assistant Coach in the mornings at Springbrook Pool and Marty Odom will return to the Dolphins as Assistant Coach in the mornings at Maryville College. In the evenings, Jeff Knox has accepted the position of Assistant Coach and will be at John Sevier Pool. Welcome back to all three Assistant Coaches. The staff is still looking to add some student coaches as well, so stay tuned for more information.
It’s Just Not Baseball Practicing Early
Preseason swims are now scheduled for April and May. Two sessions will be offered to previous Dolphin swimmers. Sessions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Maryville College. The cost for the April session (8 days) will be $50 and the cost for the May session (6 days) will be $40. To sign up your swimmer(s), fill out this form and send it in. Each session is limited to 36 swimmers. Coach Brown and Coach Odom will be coaching. If you have any questions, please email.
They Call Him Flipper
The Maryville Alcoa Flying Dolphins continue to be a competitive team year in and year out due to the extremely successful pre-competitive program, previously called Pre-Dolphins. This year, we are looking at running the same type of program, called Flippers, at Maryville College. The program would be very similar as the past, with three week sessions, running through the summer. This year, the program would be headed up by Marty Odom after Dolphin practice at Maryville College. Before the Flippers get started, we would like to gauge interest within our program. If you believe you would be interested in the Flipper program for a younger swimmer, age 6 or younger, please send an email. Thank you.
